Sidewall windows
Free-range poultry houses nowadays need to have 3% daylight. Tulderhof offers three different solutions to achieve this purpose.
1. Side wall windows
2. Roof windows
3. Ridge window
The roof and ridge windows come with a full black-out system as standard. For the side wall windows this is optional, but strongly advised.
The most common solution, especially for poultry houses with several floors are the sidewall windows. These can be made in a “day-light strip” along the whole sidewall of the house. In between the windows the air inlets are made. The builder only needs to leave one large cut-away over the whole side. Because all Tulderhof products are custom made, it is very easy to install the windows and air inlets into this cut-away. We advise to use translucent windows. Doing so, direct sunrays are blocked, and a very nice diffuse daylight is guaranteed.

To prevent pecking among the hens a black-out system is strongly recommended. Tulderhof makes its black-out systems for side wall windows with slide-doors which can be pulled up with a winch (hand or electrical) in front of the windows (see figure).
Technical options:
- Use of 2 windows (most common): both 10mm thick
- Opal windows or direct sunlight
- With or without flange
- Frame of plywood or PP
- The size of the frame is 100% custom made
- With or without blackout system
