Calf stall - Natural ventilationVentilation ridgeNatural ventilation is still the best form of ventilation, Of course if the inlet can be good directed. Tulderhof has designed for that an ideal ridge. It exists of elements that are from 1 to 1.2 metres long (it is tailor-made). 4 or 5 of such elements fit between the rafters. The ridge is covered from above with a plate which ensures that the rain does not come in the house. Besides the ridge can be operated purely automatically. The valves of the ridge can be completely opened so that it can be easily cleaned.
This systen is already for more than 10 years successfully used in poultry houses. Recently it has also been used in a poultry house for biological hens. Inlet ventilation valve
A calf needs maximum between 200 and 250 m3 fresh air per hour. In the past a so called curtain ventilation system was used in calf house to guarantee the needed amount of air. One of the drawbacks of that system is that during cold winters air falls directly on the animals. Young calves can catch a cold as they have weak breathing organs. A valve system instead of a curtain system has a very big advantage of directing the air. Because of this feature the air can be aimed to the ceiling where it mixes with the warm air due to the Venturi effect. In the calf houses there is a daylight standard of 2%. That is why Tulderhof makes the valves for calves houses by default in daylight version. It helps to kill two birds with one stone. Another specific quality of the TWIN valve developed by Tulderhof is that you have the opportunity to move the hinge point under or in the middle of the valve. When the hinge is under, it does not let any airflow from under. The hinge point can be easily replaced in the middle, which makes the airflow also possible. In case of natural ventilation the whole sidewall can be equipped with TWIN DAYLIGHT valves produced by Tulderhof. Plus points are:
